Family Fun Time! (Days 424 - 426)

So, I was half-right, having somebody living in the bedroom where I usually sew does make me want to sew more. Though it also could be that having more people around makes me less depressed. I've been having a great time hanging out with my cousin =D

I haven't actually sewed anything, but I have some sort of progress. The other day at the mall, my boyfriend and I visited one of our favorite stores, a little niche in the wall, Hot Toys. They buy and sell used toys, mostly old action figures, comic books, video game systems (NES, N64...) and the like. I discovered it a while back and introduced my boyfriend to it. Recently, they've started selling plushies and turned part of their video game area into a plushie room.

In said room, I discovered a Cthulu plushie! I didn't think much abut it at the time, since I didn't have any money with me at the time, and I didn't want to ask my boyfriend to buy it for me, but when I got home that night, I realized that I needed that plushie for my Coon cosplay! So I ran back a couple of days ago and bought it before it got sold.

Me and my best friend Cthulu~

Also, I finally finished my Yaoi-Con 2010 and Holiday Anime Faire 2010 reviews over on my Convention Blog.

So... (Days 422 - 423)

I realized recently (I think I mentioned it) that some of my posts were numbered incorrectly. I finally went through all of it, and I think I fixed them. At one point, I had gone from day 295 to 226. That along with a couple of other mistakes made it so that I was was exactly 50 days off, which is why my post numbers reflected that I had not been blogging for a year, even though it's been way over that.

No cosplay progress, but I have been practicing my 12-hole ocarina so that I can play it at AOD. =]

Hopefully today I can finish my Yaoi-Con review and do my Holiday Anime Faire review so that my Convention blog is up-to-date before AOD.

Tomorrow, my cousin, grandma, and maybe aunt are coning to visit for a while, and my grandma is going to be staying in what is currently my sewing room, so either I'll take it as an invasion of space and start sewing more in order to maintain my claim over my territory, or I'll get all passive stop sewing altogether until they leave. o.o I really hope it's the first one.

Merry Christmas! (Days 417 - 421)

So I went to my boyfriend's family Christmas party last night (Christmas Eve), and there was a White Elephant gift exchange. I made a Pikachu hat for it, and a lot of people were very amused by it. It ended up going to a kid, which I intended. Kid's don't participate in the White Elephant, but parents do, and the kids seem bored during it.

Anyway, for Christmas, I got my 12-hole Destiny ocarina ^-^ I got it Christmas Eve, and I'm learning to play it and read the music really quickly. Hopefully I'll learn enough to bring it to AOD.

I've been re-inspired to finish my femme!Link cosplay, I figured out the missing piece. I'm going to use silver/metallic lace in place of chainmail. It's going to be difficult to find the right kind though. I'll need a piece off of a bolt (like how fabric comes) that looks similar to chainmail, but not enough like it to be mistaken for it, to put underneath the top amd bottom of the dress so that it'll show through the slit. Then I'm going to put lace edges around the bottom of the dress and the sleeves, to imitate chainmail sticking out from underneath. Hopefully this works, I'll really have to search for the right stuff, especially since I don't think lace usually goes with the type of fabric that I used for the dress (a blend of 95% rayon and 5% spandex). We'll see what I can find.

As for all of those hats that I was supposed to make for $100, it still hasn't happened. I thought that my friend wanted them for Christmas, but he didn't contact me about them, in fact, there was barely any communication on his end, and we never set a permanent date that they should be done on. So I'm going to try contacting him again, but somethign tells me that this isn't going to happen. Which sucks because I really need the money for Fanime.

Days 414 - 416

So, yup, done nothing. Pinned some of the parts of an Eevee hat together, but that was it. I haven't been doing much of anything lately. Haven't felt like it. Meh.

New Hats! (Days 409 - 413)

I think I have some of my days numbered wrong, because I've been blogging for over a year, yet my day numbers don't say that. Huh. I'll fix it when I get the time to go through all of my past posts to find the errors.

Anyway, I made a new hat. Not one of the ones that I'm supposed to make to get paid, but a new one nonetheless. I think it's quite adorable. =] (pictured left) It's got an overlocked edge instead of a band, and it fits more like a hood than a hat. I'd wear it myself if I didn't want to sell it so badly. I'll probably make one for myself later.

Other than that, I'm thinking of switching costumes and going as Pikachu instead of femme!Link. It's still up for debate though. I'm not even sure why I'm considering switching, I'm just not all that into my Link cosplay anymore. We'll see how t hings play out when I get my new 12-hole Destiny ocarina for Christmas. >_>

The Dress Form! (Days 407 & 408)

Yesterday, I set up my dress form yesterday and set it to my measurements. It could use some more tweaking, but for the most part, it's the same size as me. I put my femme!Link dress on it.

Today, I should make a hat or something, but we'll see, haha.

Day 406

Yup, nothing, haha. I meant to work on things today, but instead I went to a Christmas tree lighting ceremony with my boyfriend and his family. I feel like I've blogged about this before, but I haven't had this blog for a whole year yet. Hmm. Ah well.

HUZZAH! (Days 404 & 405)

I got my dress form today! It arrived at JoAnn's a couple of days ago, but we finally picked it up today. I don't know if I'm allowed to use it yet though, since it's technically my Christmas present. Of course, my dress form needs a name, and she is female. I'm tempted to name her Rikku, for no real reason whatsoever, other than maybe the fact that Sheik-chan is working on a Rikku cosplay, so I keep seeing the name pop up every now and then. I haven't played Final Fantasy, but I do like the name. =]

In other news, I've been talking to my friend Kris about lolita, and about me possibly getting into lolita. I love the style, even if I haven't fully grasped it yet, it's just intimidating because of the elitists (and the price). She's really helped me out a lot and answered all of my little newbie questions. She really put me at ease about the whole thing and sort of simplified it somehow. She directed me to this site: LolitaFashion.org, which I've found before but didn't know how much to rely on. It lists a bunch of different types of lolita and explains the style. I'm still looking into which style(s) suit me, and which I'm more interested in, but currently I most like sweet, country, sailor, and wa lolita. I'll admit, I like the ones that look more costume-y, which probably comes from my love of cosplay, but I know that lolita is completely separate from cosplay, and I intend to do it right. If I do get really into lolita, I'll start a separate blog for it so that the two don't get confused.

Also, I came up with a two-month plan to gain weight. Yup, gain. I'm about 20lbs underweight, and quite frankly, I'm tired of being made fun of for it. I'm not going to lie, I like being skinny. So gaining weight is going to be hard, not just physically, but emotionally. I've been small for as long as I can remember, so this is a big change. An extra 20lbs will still have me on the thin side, but I'll be a healthy BMI. I'm working toward a BMI of 18.9, which is on the low side still. I'm tracking my weight in pounds as well, but this is more about the BMI.

What I don't understand is that even though a ton of people have made fun of my for being skinny, when I announced on facebook that I was going to gain weight, a lot of the same people asked "why?" and made me feel like they were putting me down for doing it. I know that the media praises being skinny, but when people make fun of me for being skinny, and then discourage me from losing weight, it makes me feel like they want me to stay this way so that they can continue to make fun of me.Anyway, anyone who makes fun of me after I gain weight, is nothing but a jealous fatty. =P

So my weight gain plan is based on what my diet is lacking, hydration, and exercise. I wont' get into it, because this isn't that kind of blog, but I'm fairly confident that this will work, despite having next to no experience in nutrition, and not having a doctor look over it. Doctor's always told me "eat more" which doesn't do anything except give me a stomach ache. Anyway, this weight-gain process is going to span over two months, the last day is January 30th, and it's just maintaining it from there. You can be sure that I'll blog about this again, especially since I'll probably be 20lbs heavier by AOD! Here's hoping!

As for real cosplay progress: there was none. I bought more fleece for an 8-hat order I've got. I'm supposed to have them all done by Saturday. AHAHA! Yeah, not going to happen at this rate. But we'll see. =]

Holiday Anime Faire (Days 401 - 403)

Note: Holiday Anime Faire was not 3 days, I just haven't updated in that long, and it wasn't good enough to get its own post.

So Holiday Anime Faire was on Saturday, December 4th. My boyfriend and I went as Pacman and Clyde. Response to our costumes was amazing, as always. We even had little girls, whom I didn't think even knew what Pacman was, telling us that they loved our costumes.

We entered the cosplay contest, in hopes of winning free Fanime tickets. We didn't, Fanime tickets weren't even offered as a prize. *sob* There were no "places" in the cosplay contest (1st place, 2nd place, etc.). Instead, there were just six winners, my boyfriend and I being one of them. Among us were Pedobear, The Gorillaz, and Sailor Moon.

Usually, after a con, I feel really inspired to work on my cosplay, but Holiday Anime Faire didn't make me feel that way. I have the mild urge to sew, nothing more. It's really disappointing.

Days 398 - 400

Woo! So nothin'! Got a couple more orders for hats, and made the patterns for a few. But I'm too freaking lazy to actually make any. *sigh*

So Holiday Anime Faire is this Saturday! I shall be there in my Clyde cosplay with my boyfriend as Pacman. I'm looking forward to seeing some of my cosplay buddies again and entering the cosplay contest with some real competition. =D

New Hats! (Days 396 & 397)

So I put my fleece hats on sale for Christmas, $15 each, with some exceptions. For example, a friend of mine is buying nine hats, so I'm selling them to him for ten dollars each. 'Cause I can't ask for that much money from a friend. =[

Anyway, my sister requested a kitty hat, so I made it for her as a Christmas present. =] I'll ship it to her once I get her a couple more things (she lives in another state D=). My friend that wants nine hats wants all of the Eeveelutions, so I made one of them (an Eevee).

It didn't go that splendidly, first I cut the base piece too small. I probably should've just stopped there and cut another piece, but, no, I am persistent! Then I cut the ears too small, but it's alright because they turned out alright anyway. Then I sewed half of it inside-out -.- That was just dumb. Once I got it all together, I realized that not only is it so small, but it has no tail! Guh. So I'll be making another one. The first one is adorable anyway, and would be good for a kid. ^-^

Dress Form (Day 395)

My mommy bought my dress form today! ^-^ It's my Christmas present, and should be here in "Two to six weeks." Bleh. That's too long!

I also did what I'm going to call the last of my cosplay shopping for the year. All future money needs to go to Christmas presents for now. Thank goodness I get cash for Christmas from distant relatives, otherwise I'd be broke, well forever.

I bought the leotard and tights for my genderbent The Coon (South Park) cosplay. This is the cosplay that got posted on 4chan by a "friend" and I got flamed for. Yeah, I'm a little worried about announcing it here, because that "friend" may come back and make things worse, but they can bite me, because clearly they have nothing better to do. In any case, originally, I wanted a white leotard that looked similar to a one-piece bathing suit, but once I got to the store (Encore Theatrical), I saw that they also sold dance leotards with short sleeves. I asked my boyfriend, who knows a lot about super heroes, which would be more appropriate for a female super hero. We both agreed that the one with sleeves looked better, and they'll also give me more surface area to attach the cape to. I wish it was higher-cut though, because it's tight (because, well, duh, it's a dance leotard) and it squishes my boobs together and it's like "HAI GUIEZ! HEER'S MAH BOOBEHS!" T_T But I'll live.

The tights are a simple dark brown. They're funny though, since they're dance tights, they have holes in the bottom so that the balls of my feet touch the floor. I'm assuming that they're so that dancers have more of a grip when dancing. I was planning on wearing socks under my boots anyway, so this doesn't affect me. It's just kinda fun.

My boyfriend and I also bought the fabric for our Magikarp shirts. I'm not sure when I'll get around to making them, but I am looking forward to it. We bought the same 95% rayon, 5% spandex fabric that I used for my Link dress (which still needs to be finished). Of course, we didn't buy it in green, we bought it in red, "chilli pepper red" to be specific, haha.

So I have enough to work on for a while, and don't want to spend any more money on cosplay before Christmas... Okay, that's a lie, I need to grab three rolls of ribbon for Magikarp, because it's a Christmas special, and they may not have it after Christmas. But other than that, no more cosplay shopping! I still have to make a bunch of hats and get my seller's permit if I want to sell at Holiday Anime Faire in a couple of weeks. I may not sell there though, because, well, I'm lazy. I still have to finish my Female Link cosplay, which I finally figured out what to do with. So I have things to do before I buy any more material. =]

The Overlock (Day 394)

I made another cat hat today, a plain pink one meant to look like the Pokemon Mew's ears. It's still going to only cost $10. As mentioned in the last post, plain cat hats will be $10, but instead, Pokemon hats with only the ears and maybe a head decoration (like Meowth's coin) will be $15 (with a few exceptions), cat ears with eyes will be $20, and Pokemon hats with eyes, ears, tail, and identifying details will be $25 - $30, depending on the amount of detail and the number of pieces. Hair ribbons will remain $3 each or two for $5, and clip-on cat ears (if I ever get around to making them) will be $5. I figure, the more range of price I have, the more likely I am to make money.

I noticed this a lot at Kin-Yoobi, but I've noticed that I do it too, People would be drawn to my booth by the Pokemon hats, but when they heard the price, they'd be discouraged, and usually buy one of the hair ribbons instead. When I'm drawn to a booth, but can't afford what drew me there, I still feel compelled to buy something from that booth. So if people can't afford $30, they go for $25, if they can't afford $25, they go for $15, etc., etc. So the more price range I have, the better off I'll be.

I also cleaned up my sewing area. I guess this would be a good time to let you know what exactly my "sewing area" is. It's an add on / alcove in the front bedroom of the house. It's probably about five feet by twelve feet, I've never measured, but it's tiny. In it is a sewing cabinet, an ironing board, and a desk. A giant desk.

For the longest time, it was just a sewing machine on the sewing table. The ironing board was in the closet, and there were a bunch of papers and my mom's awards on the desk. Then the ironing board became a permanent fixture in the room. And today, Mom and I cleared off the giant desk and put the surger/overlock machine on it that was given to us about a year ago. It's a big desk, the surger only takes up about a tenth of it, even when it's fully opened, but in all fairness, it's a small surger.

Setting up the thing was a pain though. I actually set it up on the sewing table first, with my poor sewing machine balancing precariously on the edge. I decided that a good thing to do would be to un-thread it, and then re-thread it, just to teach myself how. The instructions were really easy to understand, up until one part, but at that one part, not only was it hard to figure out what to do, it was also very hard to do it. I can't explain exactly what I had to do, but imagine threading a needle through a toilet paper roll, it was pretty similar to that.

One I got it threaded, I messed with the tension a bit (it still needs work) and got it to work on a scrap piece of fleece from one of my hats. The main reason I keep smaller pieces of fabric is so that I have something to test on when the sewing machine acts up, and now I can use them for the surger too.

The surger is also kinda dirty still, it could use a once-over with a damp cloth, and I'll have to *gulp* re-thread it. Because the thread it was given to me with is all different colors. I left it that way to learn how to thread it so that I wouldn't get the threads mixed up. Turns out it was fairly easy to thread, and I could have used all the same color, but.. That's life, I suppose.

Prior to setting up the surger, I re-organized the sewing cabinet for what feels like the thousandth time since I started sewing. I somehow cleared off several shelves inside, but most of that was because there were empty boxes in there that I was able to put stuff in that I rarely used. Like the thousands of buttons we have. No, really, I'm pretty sure there's thousands. Found some cool stuff, stabbed myself on some super sharp scissors, and organized the different kinds of pins that I have. It's probably not much different, other than the fact that my pins are now on the left side of the cabinet instead of the right, but it feels a lot cleaner, and that's always a good thing.

All my little sewing alcove needs is a dressform and that rack that you hang clothes on to steam them. I already have a steamer, I just don't use it. Oh! And a sleeve ironing board and a ham. (No, not the edible kind of ham, the sewing kind.) Oh, and I also need about twice the space that I have now. My mom has been talking about getting rid of the bed that's in the front bedroom, but it doesn't seem to be happening any time soon. If I want more room, I'll probably have to get rid of a ton of stuff in my bedroom or something, but there's a double-sized bed in there, and only a twin in here (and the computer, four chairs, two tables, and two desks). So I'm stuck for now.

Mom says she's going to try to get me a dress form for Christmas! I'm so ridiculously excited, anyone who doesn't sew (and some people who do) can't even comprehend how excited I am! If all goes as planned, I'll be getting a Dritz® Twin Fit Dressform in the Petite size. The Dritz® and Singer® dressforms are on sale, but only the "normal" sizes (small, small/medium, medium, medium/large, and large), and the small is one inch too big at the bust. It's a little upsetting, but on the bright side, I'm one inch away from being "normal" sized! I was shocked when I measured my waist and found that it was twenty-five inches and not twenty-four anymore! I'm so excited and proud of myself! A little upset, honestly, because, in theory, a twenty-four inch waist is "ideal" but that must be a lie, because a twenty-four inch waist is no bueno.

ANYWAY! If I don't get a dressform (*tear*) I'd be almost as happy to get a sleeve ironing board. A tiny one because i have tiny sleeves for tiny arms. I am so tired of trying not to make creases in sleeves and pants when ironing them. Below that, a ham would be awesome, because I hate darts enough already, so at least ironing them should be easy.

Whee! I feel like my little sewing space is almost complete! Only missing *counts on fingers* four more items! And more space... Lots more space. I'll figure something out when the time comes. Currently, my sewing area fits together like a puzzle. In order to have room near the surger, the ironing board has to be pushed to the left, but in order to open the sewing cabinet, the ironing board needs to be pushed to the right. A rolling chair will eliminate one of the chairs in there, and we have one in the garage. A dressform would most likely sit in the middle of the sewing area, and be brought out into the middle of the room when in use. I also cut my fabric in the middle of the room, haha.

As for actual planned cosplay progress, I looked more into wigs for mine and my boyfriend's Magikarp cosplays. Originally, we had budgeted for $50 wigs, because that's what the local store always charges me, but I looked at Cosplay.com's wigs, and they're a lot cheaper, even accounting for shipping. At the moment, we're considering Cosplay.com's S-02 Medium Bob Wig in dark red, and we'd take it to the local wig shop to get bangs cut into it, because I know I can't cut bangs for the life of me. Last time that I only wanted bangs cut into a wig, it was free, he also thinned the wig some, and game me a free wig head. So even if he charges a little next time, I'd still like to go back. =]

Happy Thanksgiving! (Day 393)

Happy Turkey Day everybody. May your lives be full of goodness and your bellies be full of yumminess. (or something) No, I did not cosplay for Thanksgiving. I generally don't for Holidays. I only cosplay for conventions, gatherings, or when a day is boring, so that pretty much eliminates all holidays. Though I did wear a hat with cat ears on it, but that was mostly because the hat is warm and the air is cold.

A lot of people that saw the hat really liked it. It was a crochet hat that essentially looks like a rectangle until you put it on, and then the corners look like cat ears. And it got me thinking that I could make one out of fleece. So I did! And it's cute and adorable and really easy to make, so I shall be selling them for $10 at Fanime! I've decided: Cat Hats (with no detail) $10 and Cat Hats with Eyes $15. And any cat-like Pokemon hats will be made with the method I used for the cat hat, instead of being rounded like the others. I figure, the more variety I can get, the better. =]

Picture will be posted later.

Days 391 & 392

So, yeah, nothin' haha. I've been trying to finish my review for Yaoi-Con (yeah, I'm still not done), and I've also been trying to figure out what I want to cosplay during the Magikarp panel at AOD. Theoretically, it'd be best to be Pikachu, but I'll have my Link ears on still, and I don't know if my hair will cover them. So I may just stay in my Link cosplay and wear my boyfriend's Magikarp hat. Yup... We'll see.

Day 390

Nothing of interest today. Saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1! ^-^ That has absolutely nothing to do with me cosplaying, it was just a really good movie.

Day 389

So last night, I found a thread on 4chan about myself. Posted by someone on my facebook friends list. I'm still not entirely sure who it was, but I deleted a bunch of people that I didn't trust, and I hope it was one of them. Basically, one of my future cosplays was put out there to make fun of and bash.

Last night, when I first found out, it bothered me a lot. So much that I thought of giving up the cosplay altogether. However, I came to the conclusion that I am going to do whatever the heck I want. I'm doing the cosplay, and I'm doing it exactly how I want to do it, no matter what anyone says. 4chan and whoever posted about me can kiss my furry, genderbent, superhero ass!

Day 338

I forgot to mention yesterday that the panel that my boyfriend and i want to do for AOD was approved! YAAAAAAAY! I've never been this excited to give a presentation before, HAHA.

So anyone going to AOD, you should totally come check out our panel, Magikarp: A History. "A survey of the history of the Pokemon Magikarp, including in-game capabilities, anime appearances, and physical changes throughout the years"

So today, I went to the mall with some friends. It was really good to get out of the house and see people. Well, people other than my boyfriend and mom. Don't get me wrong, I love them to death, but I see them all the time, so it was good to see more people =]

So. Yeah. No progress. WHEEEEE~!

Sick =[ (Day 337)

I was sick in the worst way today. I woke up with a full-blown migraine, headache, nausea, neck pain, everything. I also had a stuffy, runny nose and sore sinuses. So I took some Tylenol extra strength cold medication, and that made me so dizzy and loopy, I had to lay down for several hours. Everything was kinda funny though xD No matter what someone said, it made me giggle. It makes me think I'll be a fun drunk, HAHA.

So, clearly, no cosplay progress today. We'll see about tomorrow.

Day 386

Last night, after I blogged, I worked on my Link ears a little more, messing with the makeup. I didn't get any allergic reaction today, and it's been more than 24 hours, so I plan to use them for AOD. I made them darker, since they were way too light anyway, and put more shading and highlighting. They still need a little work, but I've got over two months.

That's about it though, I haven't worked on anything. I haven't really wanted to. Just want to get out of the house.

Elf Ears (Days 384 & 385)

So I tried on the elf ears that I plan to use for Link today. I'm a little worried about them, though. Most obviously, they're not accurate. While Link's ears point more outward and downward, the ears I have point upward, and they're about the same size as a normal human ear, so they don't point outward very far.

Most importantly though, they're latex. I wasn't allergic to latex when I bought them a couple of years ago. That's part of the reason I decided to try them on today, to see if I get an allergic reaction. They didn't bother me when I was wearing them. Well, the back of my ear itched at one point, but that could have easily been the wig. I freaked out when inside my ear started itching, and I couldn't scratch it. But that was just a random itch.

Anyway, I also can't hear very well out of the elf ears. They cover my entire ear and have no ear hole to hear out of. When i wear them, it sounds to me as though I have a head cold and my ears are all stuffed up. But conventions are loud anyway, and I like my quiet.. Then again, I said the exact same thing about my Chi ears, haha.

Of course, they're not the exact same color as my skin. Even with makeup on them, they're a lot lighter than my face. I'm considering using a slightly darker makeup on them to see if it matches my face a little more. I had to shade and highlight the ears with makeup to make them look more realistic as well.

The ears also don't match each-other. The left ear (the one I wear on my left) is thinner and wrinkled in weird places, and it looks like it's been cut, so the ear lobe is closer to my face than the one on the right. The left ear also doesn't have some of the structure that the right ear has, so I had to create the illusion that it did using makeup. It needs some work, but it's mostly covered by hair anyway. I also need to put makeup on the backs of the ears.

Anyway, if I do end up getting an allergic reaction, even a small one, I know of an online tutorial for making custom elf ears. They won't be as convincing or comfortable, and they probably won't stay on as well, but I'd rather take the hit than risk my health over it. Also, I'll get to make them into the exact shape I want, so they'll be more accurate at least.

Days 382 & 383

Couldn't think of a creative title for this one. I changed the detailing on the Link hat, and I'm still deciding if I like it better or not before changing it on the dress. If I decide I don't like it, I'll have to make an entire new hat because of what I did. Instead of using thread for the visible stitching on the hat, I used super thin strips of the same fabric that the hat is made out of. The reason I'd have to make an entirely new one is that when sewing the strips of fabric in, it made holes in the hat so that the fabric would actually fit through. If that even makes sense. (pictures to come when I have time)

And that's really all I did in the last couple of days. I've been rather depressed lately =/ Which makes me lazier than ever. Bleh. I need to go OUT somewhere soon to make me less depressed. xP

Link! (S)he come to town..! (Day 381)

Yay, yay, yay, yay, yay! I made tons of progress on my Female Link cosplay! It's all thanks to determination, it being a simple costume, and nine hours of working on it! Funny, it didn't feel like nine hours.

My boyfriend was nice enough to take me to JoAnn's, where I bought two yards of what is quite possibly the most expensive fabric I've ever bought. But I've been absolutely in love with this fabric ever since I saw it several months ago. It's 95% rayon and 5% spandex, so it's really stretchy, but also super comfortable. I'd like to attempt making some sort of comic book hero outfit out of it, but now that I've learned how it sews, I'm less than excited about it.

We also took a trip to Micheal's, where I used a gift card from my birthday (back in September) to buy some pieces of craft foam for our Magikarp cosplays, and some material to (hopefully) make my Master Dagger out of (yes, instead of a sword).

The first thing I did was completely forgo the dress pattern that I bought and attempt to make a pattern out of a dress that I already had that was pretty similar. That failed. Horribly. I cut out the pattern and then tried to make it symmetrical, and, yeah, I just threw it out.

So back to the pattern it was! Originally, I was going to alter the pattern. I didn't want the darts in the front, and it was a size 6. However, the darts aren't so bad, and the sizing must have been way off because it fits really well! (Though I may make it tighter later, it isn't quite as form-fitting as I had originally hoped.) The only thing I altered was making slits up the sides of the dress, which really only meant not sewing all the way to the bottom, and then using a no-sew-hem tape to finish it off. The sleeves gave me the most trouble, they took five tries. I can't really blame myself though, that pattern made no sense! How exactly am I supposed to match Side A with Side B if Side B is twice as long as Side A!? It's madness, I tell you! Madness!

I have yet to detail the dress at all, but considering I have a ton of time to do this, I intend to do as much detail as possible. I also need to alter the neckline. The picture I'm going off of shows diamond cutouts on the chest, but I'm starting to lean toward a simple V-neck instead, to better mirror Link's tunic.

The dress is also technically not finished in that it's not hemmed. At all. Well, the slits up the sides are hemmed because they had to be in order to match up with the seams. Currently, I'm kind of linking the unfinished look, and it doesn't look like the edges will fray, but I don't want it to look like I was lazy either. If I do hem it, I'm going to use the no-sew-hem. Not because I'm lazy, in fact the no-sew-hem can actually be more difficult sometimes, but because I don't want a bunch of stitches showing. At least not non-decorative stitches.

The hat took about half an hour, including making the pattern and cutting the fabric. It was quick and fun to make, and my machine actually cooperated with me throughout it, which was a pleasant surprise. The part that took the longest was hand-stitching the details onto the sides.

The shoes, tights, wig, and boots were all things that I already had. I also have a fairy in a bottle, which I made for a friend a long time ago and he never used. The wig is the wig that I bought for Pikachu about a week before Kin-Yoobi Con, but never used. I decided to tie it back into a ponytail so that people would be able to see my elf ears (which I'm not wearing in this picture).

I haven't really tried on the elf ears yet, and they're just some cheap ones from the Halloween store a couple of years ago, but if all else fails, I'll cover them some with the hair and it'll be alright.

I'm not thrilled with the boots, but as I mentioned before, I don't have money for new boots right now, so unless I find something better for cheap, this is what I've got. They're basically wannabe Uggs in slipper form. But they're so comfy ^-^ Actually, this whole costume is super comfy. If it weren't for the wig, I would swear that it was pajamas, not a cosplay.

Link Hat! (Days 379 & 380)

I have a Liiink hat! I have a Liiiiiiink hat! *dances* It was pretty much a practice hat, though it is for sale for $10. When I make the one for my Link cosplay, it'll be a little different, mostly longer, lol.

I wanted to get fabric yesterday, but it didn't happen... Then I was hoping to get it today, but that's already not going to happen. So if I don't get it tomorrow, I'm gonna throw a fit! T_T I want my Link fabric. I've been in love with it for months and now that I finally have something to use it for, I can't go get it! RAWR!

Day 378

So, of course, I'm back to not working on anything. I really do want to sew, but I don't feel well =[ Tomorrow I have to go to the California School for the Deaf on a field trip for my American Sign Language. But it's only in the morning, so maybe, just maybe I can work on something tomorrow.

I'm Not Dead! (Days 362 - 377)

Despite my lack of blogging, I'm not dead. I don't know why I've been disappeared lately, but Ah well.

So I went to Yaoi-Con (review coming soon), and it was way better than last year. I did indeed finish my Franziska cosplay before then (at 3 in the morning) and I'm really glad that I did. I got a lot of recognition and a lot of praise. Not to mention one of the funnest photoshoots I've ever had. =] I don't wanna say too much 'cause it should be in my convention blog soon.

So now I'm preparing for AOD and Fanime. (Mostly Fanime) Yes, I've decided to go to AOD, but I'll probably just lobby-con it. Unless my boyfriend and I manage to pull together the panel that we want to do and it gets approved. 'Cause we ain't payin' to get in.

For AOD, I'd like to cosplay female Link (Legend of Zelda). I found an adorable design on VeryDemotivational.com, but I have no idea who the artist is, and I'd like to credit them, so if anyone knows where the picture came from, it'd be great if you linked me to it. I feel a little hypocritical, because, no, I don't like over-sexualized female versions of male characters. I have felt that tinge of disgust and looked the other way when I've seen them. But cosplay is definitely still a learning experience for me. I've learned about so many things, and I've learned to accept and respect so many different and new things, this is just one more thing that I'll have to learn to respect. Yes, the fact that I want to do this is making it more relevant for me to respect, but if that's what it takes, so be it. At least I'm learning to respect it, instead of judging forever.

That being said, I still probably won't like super over-sexualized versions of characters (regardless of gender). There will probably always be a limit, and that's just something I'll have to learn to deal with.

I'm tweaking the design quite a bit, starting with lengthening the dress. I'm going to make it to about mid-thigh, so still short, but not short enough to show my booty >_< The slit up the side will probably come up about as high, to just below the hip. I'm also going to wear white tights under it, for several reasons, mostly accuracy. I'd also like to get some type of gloves, but I'm not sure which kind. I'd like them to be brown and leathery-looking, but the actual design is totally up in the air. I may or may not make the sack shown, it would be nice to have to hold my ocarina in. I don't have money for new shoes, so unless my mom has some that I can borrow (which she just might >_>), I'll end up wearing some little brown Ugg-looking slippers, which are so ridiculously freaking comfortable OMG! I also don't have money for a new wig, so I'll either end up wearing the wig I originally bought for Pikachu or my Chi wig. Either way, I'll pull the long air back into a bun and hide it (and the showing netting) under the hat.

I have some elf/fairy ears that I can wear, even though they're not super accurate (they point upward instead of downward), but unless Spirit Halloween Stores are still open, they'll have to do. For some reason, I really, really want the sword to be a cute little dagger, but that's up to debate right now (let me know what you think!). I will be wearing a bra, though there clearly isn't one in the picture, and so the cleavage-revealing diamonds will be moved up a little higher. Originally I wanted to find and buy a dress, but, haha, pain, green, short-sleeved dresses don't exist (especially in Winter), so I am going to end up making it (bought the pattern today).

I think I'm most worried about the hat, though. I'd like to make it more detailed, like the Twilight Princess version of Link's hat, but shorter. People are already teasing me that I'm worried about making a hat, what with my hat-making business and all... But I've never made a hat like this, there's no pattern for it, and quite frankly, it intimidates me.

Time Flies... (Days 359 - 361)

...when you're swamped with things to do. No cosplay progress, but I did go to a costume/Halloween party! I went as a bloody, messy vampire. Somehow, people said that that was predictable LOL Ah well.

The most fun was people's reaction to my boyfriend's costume. He was "Party Bunny", a combination of Jackass's Party Boy and Bunny the Lifeguard. Yes. It was epic.

Good news though! A friend might be staying with us for Fanime, as well as my cousin and a friend of hers. Only for one night though. But it'll lessen the cost for me and my boyfriend a ton anyway! Yayyyy!

Nerd Rage! (Day 358)

Wheee! So I went to JoAnn's to get the ribbon I needed for Franziska's long vest, the FIMO (Sculpey) that I needed for Franziska's neck jewel, and some new fabric for Franziska's neck ruffly.

By some miracle, they actually had the exact ribbon that I've been looking months for. *headdesk* I wonder how long that was there...

I'm pretty happy with the FIMO that I got. The blue I chose is the exact same blue that I used for the buttons. I actually think it's supposed to be a lighter blue, but they didn't have anything like that and I'm not up to painting it. For the trim or whatever that is around it, I got a metallic brown/orange. It's not exactly what I envisioned, but I like it a lot anyway. It seems more realistic.

For the new neck ruffly, I got a thicker fabric than I got before. I don't like the texture as much (seeing as there isn't much in the way of texture at all), and it is a little heavier, but it stands up on its own more so I should be able to get the volume I want without all the extra weight or the tons of layers and ruffles the first one needed.

After JoAnn's, I went home and started again on Franziska's long vest. First I had to take off the failed yellow ribbon that I had started months ago. When I did it, I somehow managed to cut it too short and pieced together parts of it, so it wasn't one long piece all the way around. And that just wouldn't do, so I took it all off. Then about halfway into it, I ran out of Heat 'n' Bond no-sew Hem! Oh noes!

So back to JoAnn's it was! I also got those little concealing flower petal thingies as Franziska's design doesn't allow me to wear a bra, and that was quite evident when it got, umm.. Chilly. I just wish that there was some way that I could still get support. =/

In addition, I learned about the many types of Heat 'n' Bond. Not that I understand all of them, I just now know that there's more than one type in addition to different widths. I stuck with the "hem" kinda because it's the kind that I know how to use. There was a "decorative" kind, which is probably what I needed, but it's too late in the game to learn how to use a new kind. The directions were a little different.

Anyway! Back home again, I finished applying the yellow parts and began sewing. Ah, everything went beautifully until the lining went in. I always seem to mess this part up and then can never remember how I did it the last time. I've made two vests and a jacket with lining and I still can't get it right.. Hmmm... At this point, I gave up. It's too late to think about how to fix it. I've had a long day, and I'll deal with it tomorrow.

But no matter! I made more progress today! *clapity clap*

What's This!? (Days 352 - 357)

PROGRESS! Oh my God, I made PROGRESS!

I made Franziska's ruffle thing. No more ruffles. No more pleats. Never again. Biggest disaster of poof ever. I pleated the fabric and folded it in half, as per Sheik's suggestion. It wouldn't really stay, so I ironed the "inside" pleats, if that makes sense. Basically I ironed the part of the pleat that wouldn't be seen so that it'd stay where it should be. That still didn't work, so I sewed parts of the inner pleats to stay. That didn't work either. So I kinda gave up, haha. Then I sewed the sides of the poof together so that it would be folded over and make the bottom loop. Well that kinda screwed over my pleats a little. They still look alright, but the fourth one is hecka tiny. I messed with it and then decided to leave it. I'll be going to JoAnn's soon, and I'll look for more of the fabric that I used. If it's there, I'll buy more and re-make the whole poof.

To make the poof, umm.. poofy, I followed foxberry's advice and added some layers inside. Well. One layer. One layer of POOF! I gathered a piece of scrap fabric that was a little shorter than my poof and stuck that inside. Then I gathered the top of the whole thing so close it up. I tried starching it too, but that did absolutely nothing, heh.

To make the part that actually goes around my neck, I measured the actual height of my neck (as opposed to guestimating the height the neck piece should be) and then gathered the ends of that. On the gathered ends, I added a hook and eye to attach it in the front.

Then I sewed on the poofy ruffle to the neck piece. This took two tries. The first try, at 10:00 at night, just didn't go well. At all. It just.. No. We won't talk about that. The second try went a little better and gave it some of the volume it needed too. It's sewn upside-down on the inside of the neck piece and falls over the top when put on correctly.

I also made the buttons for the vest. I'm kinda kicking myself because I realized too late that there should be 5 triangles and 5 buttons, one is hidden by the ruffle. It's too late to fix this now though, so I ended up with 4 triangles and 4 buttons with one covered by the ruffle =/ Anyway, I used FIMO Soft modeling clay to make the buttons. It's an oven-hardening clay, similar to the very-popular Sculpey, but a lot cheaper. The clay came out of the package a little hard, but that may have been my fault for waiting so long to use it. Once I kneaded it in my hands some, it softened up and was fairly easy to work with.

First, I measured how large I wanted the diameter of the buttons to be and drew it on a piece of paper. Then I started taking chunks of the clay (it comes sort of pre-cut into pieces) and rolled them together into a ball. Once I got the ball almost as big as I wanted the button to be, I used a plastic knife to cut it in half. This messed up the shape a little, but it was easy enough to get it back to where I wanted it. Then I smooshed them down into slightly flatter half-spheres. I used a toothpick to draw a rectangle on the flat side and then cut slices of the clay off around it so that I had the rectangle sticking up in the middle of the flat side of the button. I then used the toothpick to poke a hole through the rectangle. At this point, I wish I had squished the rectangles down flatter a little to make the backs of the buttons more even. This happened to one of them on accident, and it's not my favorite button. (It's it's also the button that's covered by the ruffle. >_<)

I then baked it in the oven, following the directions, for half an hour at 230 degrees. After they were done, I sanded them with wet 400 grit sandpaper and sprayed them with (wait for it) furniture polish. The polish was supposed to make them shiny. It didn't, but it did get rid of the scratch-like marks from sanding, so I'm pleased.

i then tried on all the stuff that I have completed. I don't have leather gloves like I thought I did, but I found some well-fitting cotton gloves, so they'll have to do. If I can make it to the Halloween store, I'll search from some well-fitting leather gloves, but I have the feeling that they'll be hard to find anywhere but a specialty store, and they'll be really expensive. I have a pair of white jeans that I can use, since white dress pants are hard to come by and I don't have the money for fabric to make them. Plus, after the bloomers incident, I don't think I'm ready to make pants just yet... The boots I also already had.

Yaoi-Con Photoshoot? =D (Day 351)

So, being awesome like I can be sometimes, I set up a mini photoshoot for Yaoi-Con with a Phoenix Wright cosplayer who's a friend of a photographer that I'm friends with. Yeah. That made sense. I'm extremely excited, but the whole thing makes me feel terrible about my boyfriend's Miles Edgeworth cosplay not being completed. Even though it's not my fault, I feel like I got his hopes up for something that's not happening. And I was really excited for him to cosplay it too!

In other news, still no progress on my Franziska cosplay, though I may have some black women's gloves that I can use, so that's at least some forward progress. Assuming that I actually have them.

Miles Scrapped (Days 340 - 350)

I think I'm getting worse about posting. And I'm certainly running out of titles that say "I did nothing, sorry."

The Miles Edgeworth cosplay that my boyfriend was going to wear to Yaoi Con has been put on hold, if not scrapped altogether. We failed to find a red men's suit or a blue men's vest. Hoping that all was not for naught, we bought a pant pattern (I've never made pants before) at the thrift store for 69 cents (I just discovered their fabulous pattern section), and headed off to the fabric store to do some budgeting.

If I were to make the entire Mile's Edgeworth (18-year-old) costume, it'd mean making a jacket, pants, and a vest. I already have the fabric for the neck rufflies and the undershirt is just a white t-shirt. While this doesn't sound like a lot, taking into consideration the lining of at least the jacket and the pants, we were looking at about 10 yards of fabric. Plus there's a plethora (16!) giant buttons. Our end result (including tax on all but the buttons) was $83. If we had started right after Fanime (like I wanted to!) that would have been easy. But. With Yaoi-Con two weeks away, there's no way we could scrape together the money. And I had already promised to pay for his wig (which I estimated at about $50) so I'm pretty tapped for cash too.

On a side note, at the fabric store, we found out that the fabric that we used to make my boyfriend's Hideki jacket now has a label on it that says "may cause cancer." Fantastic. Next time I go to there, I'll write down the name of the fabric and the brand and post a proper warning here. In any case, I'm considering remaking his jacket for Fanime. This saddens me because I'm still so proud of that Hideki jacket. It wasn't terribly hard to make, but it had some snags and still turned out flawlessly in my eyes. *sniffle* And I'll probably end up throwing it away now.

All of that being said, I still plan to cosplay Franziska von Karma (13-year-old) to Yaoi-Con. I still need to finish the ruffles, gem, buttons, and coat (/long vest). It doesn't sound like much but somehow.. It's daunting. I think it's the buttons that are intimidating me. They must be exactly the same or I'll freak out every time I look at them. And I'm still overwhelmed with school.

Goodness! (Days 339 - 349)

Where on earth did the time go!? School is really, really kicking my butt. I'm sorry I haven't updated and I haven't worked on anything.

I attended a cosplay event, which is awaiting writeup, but because I'm writing papers for school every week, I haven't felt like writing at all. Once I get that under control (in a month or so >_<) updates will get more regular (I hope). =[

Commissions Galore (333 - 338)

So I was asked to make three more pairs of Cheshire Cat ears and a tail for my cousin's friends. Money for meeee~! I finished them all today and I'll be getting my money tomorrow.

I've also been asked to make an Ash Ketchum vest and hat, but those don't need to be done until December, so I'm not worried at all. And making the vest will give me practice for when I make one for my boyfriend.

Still haven't done anything on my Franziska costume, or my boyfriend's Miles. Bleh. I feel stuck. It's more of a mental thing, but boy it sucks.

Also, my fleece hats are now on facebook!

Challenger Defeated! (Days 331 & 332)

I actually did finish the Cheshire cat ares and tail Friday night. I sold them to my cousin on Saturday, along with the four heart plush things I made. Yay, money! Unfortunately, on the same day, I was introduced to the fun of playing a 12-hole ocarina, and now I want one >_< Bye bye money....

My birthday is coming up, on which I will be getting a DS, Pokemon HeartGold, and a Pokewalker, all thanks to my boyfriend and his mom o.o I feel so spoiled now. I may purchase an ocarina and a songbook before then as well, but I like my money! And I need to save it for Fanime! D= I'm so torn...

The good news is that I've given up on my secret Fanime cosplay (which shall still remain a secret)! I'd like to do it some day, but I'm not ready for it yet. I don't possess the skills, money, or tools to make it, so it will be put off. This is good news though, because the replacement cosplay cost much less. My boyfriend and I are going to cosplay Magikarp Gijinkas! They're so cute! ^-^ And, yes, we do totally and completely plan to hop around in potato sack-like bags all day. Thursday (in line) and Saturday. Yeah, we'll probably going to be too tired for the rave Saturday night, but it'll be so freakin' worth it! (And I actually haven't chosen which night I want to go to the rave...)

I'm also making my boyfriend into Ashchu, because, well, it needs to be done. I'm sure he'd much rather be Magikarp all weekend, but.... >_> He'll thank me... Someday. So he'll basically be Pikachu with Ash's hat (ears coming out of the top), yellow/blonde bangs, and Ash's vest. I'd like him to get yellow pants, but from what I've seen, they only make yellow skinny jeans >_< So, erm.. We'll see how that goes.

And I still need to finish Franziska and Miles for Yaoi Con! Barely a month away! Ahhh! I haven't even started on Miles! And my boyfriend's out of money and can't fund it! Ahhhh! Officially freaking the F* out!

A New Challenger Appears! (Days 329 - 330)

So I made another Snorlax hat. A friend asked if I could make two, and I already had one, so I just made another. It didn't turn out as well as the other one, and while I have some guesses as to why, I'm still not entirely sure what happened. I thought I had cut the band too small, but it looks like it's too big. That's the most puzzling part.. In addition to that, I sewed the face on the wrong way, now the super fuzzy part is on the inside, and the flat part is on the outside. Makes it more comfortable perhaps? I wouldn't know... At least it's one of those mistakes that you only notice if someone tells you.

Also, my cousin asked me to make Cheshire Cat ears and a tail because Alice in Wonderland is her school's Homecoming theme. I'm going to finish them tonight to take to ehr tomorrow, since we're visiting anyway (she lives two hours away) and I don't know when the next time we'll visit is or when her Homecoming is.

Days 321 - 328

Remember when I mentioned that school was kicking my butt? I wasn't lying. I'm still dead. But I have been sewing some! Not much, but some!

I made another Pokemon hat, a Charmander, which I've made before, but didn't get a picture of before it sold. It's on my website now, which is essentially finished! I just don't have all of my "other products" up, like my cat ears and my new product =O

I went to Japantown the other day (yes this story is relevant), and I saw these little felt hearts. They were adorable and for some reason, I really, really wanted to buy one. But they were $2.50! $2.50 for a little, tiny freakin' heart that I could make myself for like 1/100th of the cost! So I did. Probably about a year ago, my mom brought home a giant bag of felt for me for either no reason or at least a reason that I don't remember, and I used some of that. =]

Each heart takes about a half hour to make, I make two at a time (so an hour per sitting), and most of it can be done while sitting on the couch or laying in bed watching tv. I like projects like that because they're so mellow. I haven't finalized a price for them yet, we'll see how many I can make with the materials I've got first, and how much of a selling potential they really have. But currently, they're $2 each or 3 for $5. I really like doing "x-amount for $5" deals because they sounds so appealing, and many people do have exactly $5 laying around or in their pocket. The first one I made is pictured to the right.

The little heart things will be added to the site shortly, and the site will be linked here now! Everybody go "Yaaaaaay!"

Blarg. Dead. (Day 320)

School is kicking my butt! I'm just not used to waking up early, I never was. So I may not post for a while, despite my want to. I fear if I posted something editorial-like right now, it just wouldn't be good because I'm brain-dead. Maybe next week. Or something.

In the mean time, I had my first Theatrical Makeup class today, and I am way beyond freakin' excited! Along with covering beauty and high fashion, we're going to be learning about prosthetics, cuts/burns/bruises, age, and gender! If I can nail a male-to-female facial transformation, I'll be willing to crossplay again! I'll just be a boy with man-boobs. It's okay, it happens. They're just, umm.. Very toned pecs. yes. That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

And we're also covering wigs! Ahhh! And it's all taught by the same teacher that I had for Costume Construction and she's a ton of fun. I had her last year, and I missed her tons >_< I want to take some time eventually just to catch up, and at least tell her how much her class has helped me. I mean, my sewing skills got me a job with a designer! Although, I doubt I'm getting paid. But still!

Way too excited for my own good. o.o

School's Started... (Day 319)

So classes started today, and I can already tell you that I most likely won't be working on anything this week. Just because, well, it's only Monday and I already feel lazy and exhausted. I have a kickboxing class and it's already kicking my lazy butt.

So I finally thought of some more editorial-like posts to do, based on the different "types" of cosplayers. Now, the types I came up with can apply to a lot of different people outside of cosplaying, some types overlap, some types go in pairs and are almost exactly the same, and some types have absolutely nothing to do with each-other. However, I'm going to try to go into as much detail as possible with them to make for interesting posts.

So some of the types of cosplayers that I came up with are kinetic, visual, audio, list-makers, planners, trial-and-errorers, hand-sewers, machine-sewers, drapers, stick-to-the-patterners, pattern-alterers, shoppers, commission-buyers, commissioners, dyers, crafters, Frankensteins, borderline hoarders, armorers, and pinners/staplers. Yes, some of these titles make no sense and aren't real words >_> Deal with it. If I can come up with better, catchier names that make more sense, then I'll use them. I'm also going to try to group some of these together and split others apart. For example, "shoppers" can mean people who buy full-costumes or closet cosplayers. Meanwhile, crafters and armorers are very similar, and dyers have absolutely nothing to do with almost any other category.

So in the mean time, if you have a "category" or "type" that I haven't listed that you would like to hear about, if you have a better name for one of my categories, or you would like to hear about one of the ones I came up with in particular, let me know so that I can get it done first!

Giant Wig Fail (Day 318)

So I tried to re-style my Chi wig to use for Triela (Gunslinger Girl), but it turns out, you really can't put pigtails into a wig that's not meant to have pigtail in it, no matter how hard you try. And believe it or not, hanging it upside-down doesn't help in this case either. Nope. It kinda makes it worse.

So I had to re-style the wig for Chi. But I decided that that was probably a good thing. All that really had to be done was to put the spools back in the hair, which took too long, but I did it neater than I did last time. The parts where the hair separates to go into the spool are cleaner, and the hair in the spools is less tangled and more even on both sides.

I also kinda did some touch-up on my Chi dress. Just making sure everything's attached and what not. Tried it on with two petticoats. I felt like a cupcake... It was awesome. =] I need to do something with the front bow though. It just looks messy in pictures, no matter how neatly I tie it. I have no idea what to do. Any thoughts?

Kin-Yoobi After-Party (Day 317)

The after-party went pretty much as I expected. Small, mostly people I actually knew, and a lot of fun. If there were more people (like a lot more) I'm not sure how we would have managed.

My boyfriend and I were supposed to show up at 11:30, as the party officially started at 12, but I think we got there at like 11:55 xD Oops. However, it didn't look like much setup had been done or was even needed, other than the volleyball net, which they didn't set up until after we got there anyway. We didn't help with it either, though.

The first attendee showed up at the same time as my boyfriend and I, the same attendee who was the first to show up at Kin-Yoobi, about 10 minutes early, or more, if I remember correctly. I can't for the life of me remember ever showing up early to a con that I wasn't staffing or volunteering for, but to each his own.

A couple more people showed up shortly, at most I think there were 11 of us, with at least 6 of us being staff, heh. Not our best marketing technique, but hopefully it gets better. It wasn't advertised much anyway.

We played volleyball with my Pokeball beach ball, and it went over the fence twice >_< At least it went to somewhere where we could get it without climbing the fence (we had to go around). Then when we got too hot from playing, we got in the pool and played Marco Polo. Or as we called it, "Alphonse-Edward", "Haruhi-Tamaki", "Jenny-Brock", or something else that I seem to have forgotten. Personally, my favorite was Alphonse-Edward or Haruhi-Tamaki.

There was another party going on at the same place at the same time as ours, and they thought we were crazy, and didn't get in the pool until we got out. Heh.

Eventually, we got cold in the pool, and the food was ready, so we hopped out. There were burgers and hot dogs, leftovers from Kin-Yoobi, haha. We ended up just sitting and talking, and then slowly people started to leave. I think my boyfriend and I were some of the last to leave at around 6 or 7. The party was originally supposed to go until 8, but all the attendees were gone by 5. These things happen, I suppose...

As far as cosplay goes, one girl was dressed as "Chick Pit", a variation of Pit from Kid Icarus / Super Smash Bros. Brawl, I wore a yellow shirt, jeans, and my Pikachu ears, but later changed into Swimmer Girl from Pokemon Platinum when it was warmer. My boyfriend went as Biker Guy from Pokemon Platinum, but I forgot his hat at home =/ Chick Pit later criticized me via facebook for being "half-assed" because she "will always see Pikachu" when she looks at me, and admittedly, that Pikachu was rather half-assed. However, Swimmer Girl is really a complete and accurate cosplay, except my hair, but it was a pool party, so what do you expect?

Happt Internation Cosplay Day! (Days 313 - 316)

So I haven't worked on much of anything. But today was International Cosplay Day! I dressed as Pikachu all day, even though I didn't really go much of anywhere. Yes, I am aware that I look like an idiot in this picture. But you can see my fangs! I finally remembered them! Sadly, I lost my strawberry though. =[

I felt bad dressing as "just Pikachu" but it's really the only complete costume I have right now, other than Chi, and Chi is hard to wear, what with the wig and the ears and the wires and everything o.o I almost dressed as Edward Elric, but I don't have a wig. I really wish I had finished Franziska by now, or at least most of her (though she is technically over half-finished), but we all knew that wasn't going to happen.

Good news, everyone! You just read that in the Professor's voice from Futurama!

But for real. Good news! My friend that goes to school in San Diego said that I could stay with her during Comic Con 2011! I, err, didn't ask about my boyfriend staying with us as well, but I think it'll be alright if he sleeps on the floor ^-^ My friend is very, very traditional, to the point that she could be my mom, so I didn't want to ask her right away if my boyfriend could stay too. But I will ask in the next couple of months or so. It's not like we don't have time. In any case, that'll cut down our Comic Con expenses by at least half o.o And that's a huge deal for me, seeing as I now owe my mom almost $200 for my school books, and I don't have a job.

I'm still really counting on making a lot of money at Fanime in order to cover Comic Con. I'm hoping to fly to San Diego to save time, and since it's not that long of a flight, we'll probably end up saving money, but that means we'll have to rent a car or take a bus to get from my friend's apartment to Comic Con, unless she lives less than a block away.

AHH! Freaking out already xD I'm a planner, it's what I do. I guess for now, i should focus on Yaoi-Con, which is about two months away. Then it's Holiday Anime Faire, which I'm doing absolutely zero planning for. Then I can freak out about Fanime, and THEN Comic Con o.o Yeah. I'm alright. Not gonna burst a blood vessel. Nope. Not me. *explodes*

Day 312

I always tell myself (and sometimes blog) that I am going to do stuff "tomorrow" but I never do. So, of course, I did nothing today either. Although i did browse online for the type of ribbon that I want for my Franziska cosplay, but I couldn't find it. I may have to just settle for something "close" and re-do what I've already done. In all fairness, the ribbon I have might not be accurate.

The problem with Ace Attorney games is that the artwork and the in-game clips are not only not consistent, but they're not awfully detailed either. I'm working from images similar to the one on the left, and the ribbon is for the yellow lines. The lines are clearly yellow, but it's hard to tell just what shade of yellow. I had previously thought that it was a bright, solid yellow, but looking now, it seems as though it has an orange tint. Further, I thought that it was textured, but there's no telling whether it is or isn't.

Website's Almost Finished! (Days 309 - 311)

Yay! My site's almost completely done. I published the page with the hats on it today, along with a description of them and such. It's all linked up so that the hats can be purchased too. I'm a little worried about the UShops.com site because it's so small, so I hope it's reliable and safe. But since it works with PayPal, I'm pretty sure it'll be alright. There's just next to zero traffic through it.

I ran into a problem when photographing my hair ribbons, they come out all blurry and bright and just... Not visible. I think I'll have to mess with lighting and use my cell phone to photograph them. That'll take some time, but oh well.

So I'm still not linking to my site just yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Days 307 & 308

BLEH! I haven't done anything. Except for working on setting up my website. It's... Kinda almost finished? I have to put up products still, that's really all.

It's not really the best system, but it's pretty clever, considering it's for free.

I couldn't find a free site that would let me have a shop that contains more than 5 items and let me personalize it and have more than one page. So I used webs.com (formerly freewebs) and ushops.com and linked them together. My Webs page has all the info and such, and then when you click to buy, it takes you to UShops. Hehehe, sneaky >_>

Anyway, I'll link to my site specifically when it's completely up and running. =]

Day 306

The plan today was to go buy more yellow ribbon so that I could finish my Franziska vest-thing, but I didn't have a ride, so it didn't happen.

Franziska Jacket (Day 305)

Now, I suppose I can't really call Franziska's jacket a jacket because it has no sleeves. What it really is is a redundantly long vest. Because, really, who needs a vest that goes down to their knees? And why?

Anyway, I finished the lining for the long vest, and worked on a lot of the outer part. I sewed together the pieces except for the shoulders, and I added the yellow around the sides and bottom. I'm using thin yellow ribbon and no-sew iron-on seams. I prefer the iron-on seams because, well, you can't see any thread.. Because there isn't any! It just looks cleaner to me and you don't have to worry about the edges sticking up. But I ran out of yellow ribbon! I'm going to JoAnn's tomorrow to get more ribbon to add around the arm holes because sewing everything together. I figured it would be easier to iron on the yellow while the fabric was flat, though around the sides and bottom, it didn't really matter and I ended up sewing the pieces together before I could finish.

It's funny, putting the ribbon on the vest really reminded me of when I helped my mom make my Riza Hawkeye (FMA) costume. Probably because I was using the same yellow ribbon and applying it the same way on a similarly-colored fabric. I was actually thinking about working on that cosplay again, fixing it up and buying a wig, but I don't have the money, or anywhere to wear it, so I don't know.

I'm a little concerned about my Franziska wig, I left the bobby pin in overnight to hold the bangs up. I was hoping that I could just leave it in until the con so that it would be pretty stable the day of the con, but it seems like the weight of the pin pushed it down more than the pin actually held it up. I repositioned it and am going to check on it again tomorrow. If it holds up, I'm going to take it out during the day and see how long it holds up without the pin, to see if the bangs will last a day at a con.

I would also like to correct yesterday's post, I said that I learned to hang the wig upside-down from the Cosplay.com forums, but I remembered later (as I was trying to fall asleep) that I actually learned that trick from a ridiculously good Hiei cosplayer at Fanime. My boyfriend and I were in the elevator with her and I noticed her ridiculously amazing wig and complimented her on it and asked how she styled it to be so perfect. She said she hung it upside-down and gelled it and let it dry overnight. I really wig I could find her again to link to her from here, that wig really is worth seeing.

Also, an update on my friend's Lolita Pokemon cosplay. She decided that she doesn't want to do it. I had previously warned her that she may have to pay for fabric, but when I reconfirmed this today, she said she'd just rather not at all because she isn't in the position to be spending money. Would it be wrong of me to make the cosplay (or even just the Lolita outfit) for myself after I refused to pay the full amount to make it for her? I'm in love with the design and would really like to see it happen, but if I made it, I'd be wearing it the day she was supposed to wear it. My only argument is that she's bigger than me (as is everyone over the age of 12 >_<) and it would've taken more fabric and more money to make it for her. Ugh, I don't know what to do. =[

I'm not sure if I've done this yet, but I've figured out my costume schedule for Fanime already. I'm pretty dead-set on this one, especially since I only have three new costumes to make for it (one for me and two for my boyfriend), and one is super ridiculously easy. The only issue is that the other two are in a completely new territory for me, I have almost no idea how I'm going to make over half of them. *sigh* Anyway, this is what it looks like:
Thursday - *Secret Cosplays*, Friday - Pikachu(Me) & Ashchu (Bf), Saturday - *Secret Cosplays* (again), Sunday - Chi(Me) & Hideki(Bf), Monday - None
If all goes according to plan and I finish the secret cosplays, the only things that may change are the costume for Sunday, we may do something else during the day and save Chi and Hideki exclusively for the Black & White Ball, and then maybe we'll cosplay something simple on Monday.

Of Hats and Wigs (Day 304)

(Random fact that no one cares about: The Day number, 234 today, finally matches up with the actual number of posts I have.)

I actually worked on cosplay today! I'm so proud of myself. My friend came over, originally so that I could start on her Pokemon Lolita outfit. We're going to make her into Mijumaru (pictured right). Unfortunately, the English name isn't out yet. Or if it is, at least I can't find it. I found a Lolita outfit that I really, really liked in New People yesterday, so we're tweaking it and changing the colors.

Unfortunately, we had no one to drive us to the fabric store, so we couldn't start on the outfit. So instead, I made another Pokemon hat! I plan to sell at Fanime if it's possible to only sell one day. I'd like to only sell Friday, but who knows. Anyway, I made a Totodile! He's quite adorable. I don't have a good picture though. He has little teeth that come down over the sides of the wearer's face =] So cute! I'll get a picture, ehh... Soon.

I've been asked a ton of times if I have a website. Am I allowed to have a website that sells things if I don't own the, umm, inspiration(?)? Anyone have any advice on this? As far as I know, I can only legally sell through places like Deviant Art or where it's abundantly clear that I am an artist and not a commercial brand. Otherwise copyright gets really, really messy.

I also styled my Franziska von Karma wig!I didn't cut it myself, had that done a while ago. I just used hair spray and gel to make the bangs stand up and fall the right way. In the picture to the left, she has a belt around her neck because I had her hanging upside-down on the shower curtain rod so that I could gel the top part of the bangs and let them dry in such a way that clearly defies gravity. I little trick I'm sure I picked up somewhere in the vast forums of Cosplay.com. They're almost perfect. I'm glad that I got them cut longer than I thought I needed to. I may have to clip them back to get them to stay exactly where I want them to, but I may be able to do it in a way that hides the clip. That would be really awesome. If not, I can just push them out of my face all day >_> Really. Not annoying in the least. -.-

Japantown Festivale (Day 303)

So today, I went to a festivale in Japantown. No, I don't really know what the festivale was for... But I still had lots of fun! I went with my mom and my cosplay buddies Vanessa and foxberry. Honestly, foxberry was a complete surprise, Vanessa didn't tell me that we were meeting anyone until we were in the car on the way over, and then she didn't say who we were meeting, haha.

In any case, I didn't cosplay, I just kinda dressed up in a lot of black and lace. It was kinda cool.

We wandered Japantown for a while, my mom went off to do her own thing. We ate some squid, that was cool, and we went into a store called New People. It was my first time in there, and we only looked at the first couple of floors where the accessories and clothes were. Very pretty stuff, but soooo expensive. =[ Couldn't afford anything. We ended up in a book shop where I bought a manga that I've been looking for (FMA Volume 23) and later I bought some strawberry mochi cake

We had to leave kinda early because my mom had plans.

For anyone wondering, I finished the front of my "Big Bang Theory" t-shirt. I'd like to put the show name on the back or something. I dunno. I ruined part of my ironing board cover in the process of painting the shirt, but it's not too bad.

Still Nothing New (Days 301 & 302)

Been obsessive-compulsively checking my e-mail. Waiting on ten-ish replies from people who wanted hats, and four pending modeling applications. I really hope I get at least one. If I get shot down by four, ahhhhhh, I'll feel hopeless T_T

In any case, no cosplay progress. Tomorrow, I'll be painting on a shirt, but it's really just for fun. I am envious of the "Bazinga!" Big Bang Theory t-shirts at Hot Topic, but they're all in men's sizes, so I'm making my own. Yup.
